Saigh Pediatric Simulation Center

The Saigh Pediatric Simulation Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital (SLCH) is under construction and scheduled to open in March 2009.

Located on the hospital’s fifth floor, the Saigh Center will occupy approximately 2,300 square feet and feature three high-fidelity electromechanical pediatric mannequins and programs involving all aspects of pediatric care. Its mission is to improve the skills and competence of health care professionals in caring for children.

The center will provide individual and team training experiences for health care professionals, residents, fellows, and medical and nursing students, utilizing high fidelity pediatric mannequins in simulated patient care settings. The key benefits of this training are the skills and experience gained in managing complex situations and high-risk conditions in an environment that poses no risk to patients. A long-term goal of the center is to develop communication scenarios involving families of and their caregivers.

Pediatric anesthesiologist and intensivist Jim Fehr, MD, a Carol B. and Jerome T. Loeb Teaching Fellow, is the medical director of the center. Margie Hassler, MSN, is the nurse facilitator.
